CFU Scholarship for Students Pursuing Utility Career
CFU is offering scholarships to Cedar Falls High School students interested in pursuing a career in electric line construction gas and water construction gas services electronic/digital technology or any other utility related field.
Up to three students will receive a $1500 scholarship to help with tuition. To apply interested students should complete an online scholarship form and job shadow at CFU.
This new program is intended to make students aware of career opportunities with which they might not be familiar as well as create a future generation of qualified candidates for CFU.
“We are mindful of the changing demographics. With many baby boomers retiring and leaving the workforce there is going to be a lot of need for employees in the utility industry” says Susan Abernathy CFU Employee & Legal Services Director. “We want to make sure we are letting high school students know about the potential for working at a utility.”
Students can often complete minimal training and start a job with competitive pay and benefits right after graduation.
“Students should think about utility jobs because it’s a career that you can hit the ground running. With a lot of trade programs you can graduate in a year and a half to two years and begin your lifelong career by the time you’re twenty or even younger” says Susan.
Job shadows will be coordinated by Cedar Falls High School Counselor Susan Langan. The deadline is Friday April 1. Scholarships will be paid directly to the school in two installments of $750 over two semesters pending passing grades.
