Scholarship Program Benefits Students and CFU
CFU’s scholarship program continues to benefit both Cedar Falls High School students and the utility.
The program helps students learn about utility-related career opportunities as well as create a future generation of qualified candidates for CFU.
2023 scholarship recipient Jillian Kellum is currently attending Milwaukee School of Engineering to study mechanical engineering. She will return to CFU this summer for an internship, helping to provide her with real-world experience and CFU with a qualified candidate from Cedar Falls.
“We want high school students to recognize there are a lot of great opportunities in the utility industry,” says Audra Heineman, CFU Human Resources Manager.
Some students can complete minimal training and start a job with competitive pay and benefits right after graduation.
“Students may not realize there are trade programs where you can graduate in two years and begin your career earning a competitive salary,” says Audra.
Cedar Falls High School students interested in pursuing a career in a utility-related field can apply for a CFU scholarship.
Each year up to three students are selected and receive a $1,500 scholarship to help with tuition.
Students must complete a job shadow at CFU to qualify. Interested students can contact Cedar Falls High School Counselor Chris Wood to coordinate a job shadow and complete an application. The deadline is April 1.
