Local Staff Can Quickly Restore Service

CFU reinvests in local infrastructure to ensure our customers can enjoy highly reliable service. Yet, severe weather with high winds and lightning can damage infrastructure and impact utility service. As a community-owned utility, CFU staff live and work locally which means we can respond quickly to repair damage and get your service restored safely.

Here are two recent examples of CFU staff working quickly to restore service:

  • A lightning strike hit a tree and traveled through a tracer wire on a gas line to several meters causing damage. Meters at 7 residences needed to be replaced. As a precaution and to ensure everyone's safety, a Gas Utility crew ran a pressure test of the entire gas main in this area to test for leaks. No damage was found and service was fully restored in less than 12 hours.
  • A lightning strike hit a transformer and damaged equipment which caused an electric outage in a large portion of the industrial park. Crews were able to quickly reroute power and restore service to this area in under 15 minutes. A line worker then braved the winter weather and replaced the damaged equipment, making the system whole in under 10 hours.
