Heating Bill Assistance Available

Starting in October, Cedar Falls residents may apply for help from the Low-Income Heating Assistance Program, or LIHEAP.

LIHEAP uses federal and state funds to pay a portion of heating costs for qualified households. Applications for heating assistance are taken by appointment at:

Operation Threshold
1535 Lafayette Street, Waterloo

Applications are accepted starting October 1 for disabled residents and people 60 or older.

All other households meeting the income criteria may apply starting November 1. Residents should apply promptly because assistance is subject to available funding.

To apply, contact Operation Threshold at 319-291-2065 to make an appointment. You’ll be asked to bring social security cards for each child and adult in the household, recent utility bills and documentation of all sources of income, including your 2023
tax return.

Wage earners will need copies of pay stubs for the most recent 30 days. Bring check stubs or bank statements showing direct
deposit to document payments from Social Security, pensions or public assistance.
